Raleigh, North Carolina – Warmth will dominate the Raleigh area this week as North Carolina heads into a stretch of sunny, spring weather with afternoon highs soaring to the upper 80s by Wednesday and Thursday. Drivers and residents should prepare for unusually high temperatures and increased sun exposure on area roads, including I-40, as spring heat arrives.

According to the National Weather Service, Raleigh will see sunny skies with a high near 82°F on Tuesday and only light southwest winds. Tuesday night, expect partly cloudy conditions and a mild low around 61°F. By Wednesday, temperatures climb even higher, reaching 88°F. The warm trend holds into Thursday, with mostly sunny skies and another high near 88°F.

Raleigh’s hot, dry spell raises safety concerns for outdoor activities, travel, and children or pets left in parked vehicles. Health officials urge everyone to hydrate, wear sun protection, and limit strenuous outdoor work during peak heat. With calm to light winds and little cloud cover, road surfaces can become especially hot and may impact tire safety.

Looking ahead, a slight chance of showers returns Friday afternoon, with a 30% chance of rain, but most of the week remains dry and summer-like. Evening lows stay in the low-to-mid 60s, giving little relief from the heat at night.

Stay tuned for updates, as weather alerts may be issued if temperatures climb further. Prepare for spring warmth and check on neighbors who may be sensitive to heat. The next weather ALERT remains in effect as this hot, sunny pattern continues through at least Thursday.
