Raleigh, N.C. – Residents across central North Carolina should prepare for possible flash flooding early next week, as a multi-day stretch of heavy rainfall threatens cities from Raleigh to Fayetteville beginning Monday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, a Slight Risk of excessive rainfall is in effect for much of the region from Monday, May 12, through Tuesday, May 13. Rainfall totals between 2 to 4 inches are possible, with the heaviest downpours expected Monday afternoon into early Tuesday.

Cities including Goldsboro, Greenville, and Jacksonville sit squarely in the zone of concern, with localized flooding possible in low-lying or poor drainage areas. Major roadways like I-40 and U.S. 70 could see water accumulation during peak travel hours. Drivers are urged to avoid flooded roads and monitor alerts from emergency management officials.

Although the weekend remains dry, residents should use the time to clear storm drains, check sump pumps, and prepare for potential disruptions. Power outages and travel delays may occur if rainfall intensifies.

Rain chances increase late Sunday, with weather alerts likely to expand. Flash flood watches could be issued as early as Monday morning. Stay updated at weather.gov.
