Lexington, NC – A student at West Davidson High School was arrested Friday morning after reports of a weapon on campus. School officials placed the school on lockdown and followed emergency procedures.

According to the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office, the School Resource Officer (SRO) identified and apprehended the student outside the school. A search of the student’s backpack revealed a toy gun with plastic handguards resembling a real firearm.

Authorities charged the student with resisting arrest, communicating threats toward the SRO, and disorderly conduct. The student was later released to their parents.

Davidson County Schools released a statement emphasizing student safety. The administration acted swiftly after receiving the report around 7:30 a.m. Officials followed established safety protocols and determined the weapon was not real.

“We prioritize the safety and security of our students and staff,” the statement read. “At no time was there an immediate danger to the school community.”

School officials reminded students and parents about the importance of reporting safety concerns. They encouraged using the Say Something Anonymous Reporting System (SSARS) for potential threats.

Authorities urge students to avoid making false claims or threats, as they can disrupt the school and cause unnecessary fear. The district also asked the public to verify information before sharing on social media to prevent misinformation.

The Davidson County Sheriff’s Office and school officials continue to investigate the incident.
