Raleigh, NC – A statewide fire danger alert is in effect across North Carolina through 8 p.m. Tuesday due to low humidity and gusty winds that could rapidly spread wildfires.
According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, relative humidity levels are expected to drop into the 20–25% range this afternoon, paired with wind gusts reaching up to 30 mph. These conditions significantly increase the risk of fire spread across most of the state, excluding parts of the northwest and northeast.
The North Carolina Forest Service has issued a statewide ban on all open burning, effective immediately and continuing until further notice. All previously issued burning permits are now void. Residents are urged to refrain from any outdoor burning and to secure combustible materials near homes and businesses.
Counties including Wake, Mecklenburg, Cumberland, and Guilford are among the areas at greatest risk due to dry vegetation and sustained winds. Cities such as Raleigh, Charlotte, and Fayetteville should expect heightened fire danger through early evening.
Officials advise residents to report any signs of smoke or wildfire activity immediately and consult their local NC Forest Service office or fire marshal for updated restrictions and safety guidelines.
