Raleigh, NC – Strong winds and frigid temperatures will impact central North Carolina this week, with a high wind warning in effect Sunday and a wintry mix arriving midweek. Residents should prepare for gusts up to 55 mph and possible power outages.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the high wind warning runs from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, affecting areas including Raleigh, Durham, and Wake Forest. Winds could bring down trees and power lines, making travel dangerous, particularly for high-profile vehicles.

On Monday, temperatures will drop significantly, with a high near 47°F and sunny conditions for Washington’s Birthday. Tuesday remains mostly sunny with a high near 52°F before the weather takes a turn midweek.

Wednesday brings an 80% chance of snow before shifting to sleet, with highs near 33°F. By Wednesday night, freezing rain and sleet are likely, with temperatures plunging to 22°F. Roads could become hazardous, especially along I-40 and I-85.

Residents should secure outdoor items, charge devices in case of outages, and drive cautiously. Stay updated with weather alerts as conditions evolve.
