Wilmington, NC – A strong storm system will bring heavy rain and powerful wind gusts to southeast North Carolina Sunday before temperatures drop sharply for the week ahead. The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, warning of gusts up to 50 mph.
According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, rain and thunderstorms are expected through the early afternoon, with a chance of isolated strong storms. Winds will shift from the southwest at 15-25 mph, with gusts potentially exceeding 50 mph. These conditions could cause tree damage and scattered power outages, so residents should secure loose outdoor items and avoid unnecessary travel.
By Sunday night, skies will clear, and temperatures will drop to the mid-30s. Monday (Washington’s Birthday) will be sunny but chilly, with highs in the low 50s. The trend continues into midweek, with mostly sunny skies and daytime highs in the mid-40s to low 50s.
A sharp arctic blast is expected nationwide this week, with some areas seeing subzero wind chills. While North Carolina will avoid the worst of it, cooler-than-average temperatures will persist through next weekend.
