Belville, NC – A powerful cold front is set to sweep through southeast North Carolina on Sunday, bringing gusty winds and rain before temperatures drop significantly next week.
According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, the front will bring sustained winds of 16 to 24 mph, with gusts reaching up to 37 mph. Rain showers are likely before 5 p.m. on Sunday, with an 80% chance of precipitation. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and a quarter of an inch are expected.
By Sunday night, skies will clear, but northwest winds of 9 to 14 mph, with gusts up to 23 mph, will continue. Temperatures will drop to around 38 degrees. On Monday, expect sunny conditions with a high of 53 degrees, but colder air will settle in Monday night, with lows dipping to 32 degrees.
Looking ahead, another round of showers is expected Wednesday, with temperatures reaching 55 degrees. A second cold front will push through, dropping highs into the upper 40s by Thursday.
Residents should prepare for strong winds Sunday and colder temperatures early next week. Secure loose outdoor objects and dress appropriately for cooler conditions.
