Rensselaer, NY – A major winter storm is set to impact parts of New York starting Sunday, bringing snow, freezing rain, and strong winds. Hazardous travel conditions and possible power outages are expected.

According to the National Weather Service, the storm will begin Saturday afternoon with snow before transitioning into a wintry mix Saturday night. By Sunday morning, freezing rain and sleet will create slick roads and dangerous travel. Snow and ice accumulations could reach up to seven inches in higher elevations. Winds will increase Sunday night into Monday, with gusts up to 40 mph.

Drivers should avoid travel unless necessary, especially on bridges and overpasses where ice will form quickly. Bitter cold temperatures return next week, with wind chills dropping below zero. Those venturing outside should dress in layers and prepare for extreme cold.

Looking ahead, Tuesday will bring sunshine, but temperatures will stay frigid. Another chance of snow arrives Thursday, continuing the active winter pattern. Residents should monitor weather updates and take precautions for hazardous conditions.
