According to the National Weather Service, all of central North Carolina is in a slight risk (level 2/4) for flash flooding today. The greatest threat is anticipated between 2 PM and midnight today, and again on Thursday. Scattered flash flooding is possible, especially in urban and poor drainage areas.
Meteorologists warn that numerous showers and thunderstorms will develop across central North Carolina during the afternoon and late evening. Some storms could produce slow-moving heavy downpours, increasing the threat of flash flooding.
The forecast indicates that the rainy conditions will continue into Thursday, with the greatest risk of severe weather between 2 PM and midnight. Damaging winds from wet microbursts are also possible, potentially knocking down trees and power lines.
