North Carolina and South Carolina Weather Alert: Rain Showers Expected Early Thursday Morning

Greenville, SC – A cold front will move into the western Carolinas early Thursday, bringing widespread rain showers to the region.

According to the National Weather Service Greenville-Spartanburg, rain will spread from west to east, starting as early as 2 a.m. in western North Carolina and northeast Georgia. The showers will continue moving eastward, reaching Charlotte and surrounding areas by mid-morning, with precipitation expected to taper off around lunchtime.

Rainfall chances vary across the region, with the highest probability of precipitation in western areas such as Robbinsville, NC (90%) and Franklin, NC (76%). In contrast, Charlotte and surrounding counties have a 50–60% chance of rain.

Commuters should prepare for wet roads and reduced visibility during the morning drive. Those traveling along I-85, I-26, and I-40 should expect light to moderate showers during peak travel hours.

Residents are advised to carry an umbrella and check for weather updates as conditions evolve. No severe weather is expected, but lingering showers could impact outdoor plans through late morning.
