Huntsville, Ala. – Dangerous heat will continue building across north Alabama through at least the middle of next week, with heat index values climbing as high as 109 degrees while daily rounds of afternoon and early evening thunderstorms provide only brief relief.
According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, scattered showers and thunderstorms will remain in the daily forecast through Wednesday, with the highest rain chances arriving Sunday. Despite those storms, temperatures and humidity will continue rising, creating increasingly dangerous conditions during the afternoon hours.
Saturday will feature highs between 86 and 94 degrees with a 20% to 40% chance of storms and heat index values ranging from 98 to 105 degrees. Storm chances increase to 50% to 70% Sunday, while highs reach 85 to 93 degrees and the heat index remains between 98 and 105 degrees.
The hottest stretch is expected Monday through Wednesday. High temperatures will climb into the upper 80s to middle 90s, with heat index values reaching 98 to 107 degrees Monday, 98 to 109 degrees Tuesday, and 98 to 107 degrees Wednesday. Isolated to scattered afternoon thunderstorms remain possible each day.
Residents are urged to limit strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest part of the afternoon, drink plenty of water, wear lightweight clothing and take frequent breaks in air-conditioned spaces. Never leave children or pets inside parked vehicles, where temperatures can become life-threatening within minutes.
