Huntsville, Ala. – Drivers across northeast Alabama are waking up to thick fog early this morning, with visibility dropping to a quarter mile or less in some areas. The National Weather Service has issued a Dense Fog Advisory for all of northeast Alabama, including Cullman County, in effect until 9 a.m. CDT.
According to the National Weather Service office in Huntsville, the fog has developed under calm winds and clear skies following Tuesday’s cooling trend. The heaviest fog will impact travel along I-65, U.S. 72, and U.S. 431 through sunrise, with conditions gradually improving mid-morning as sunlight returns.
Motorists are urged to slow down, allow extra travel time, and use low-beam headlights to improve visibility. Sudden fluctuations in fog density are possible, especially near valleys, rivers, and low-lying rural roads. School buses and early commuters should exercise extra caution when crossing intersections or approaching stoplights in dense fog pockets.
Once the fog lifts, a mild and sunny day will follow with afternoon highs in the lower 70s—classic fall conditions returning for the rest of the week.
