Huntsville, AL – A cold weather advisory is in effect for northern Alabama and southern Tennessee from midnight Sunday to noon Monday. Wind chills as low as -5°F are forecast, posing a frostbite risk for exposed skin within 30 minutes.

According to the National Weather Service, apparent temperatures will range from 0°F to -5°F due to northwest winds gusting up to 20 mph. The advisory covers major highways, including I-565, US-72, and surrounding rural roads, with dangerously cold conditions expected. Residents are urged to limit outdoor exposure, dress in layers, and bring pets indoors.

Monday’s high in Huntsville is forecast to reach only 25°F, with wind chills remaining in single digits until midday. Overnight temperatures on Monday will drop to 12°F, with calmer winds providing slight relief. Drivers should exercise caution as icy patches may form on elevated roadways.

Looking ahead, temperatures gradually improve Tuesday, with a high of 29°F under mostly cloudy skies. Clearer conditions arrive Wednesday, accompanied by highs near 36°F and sunny skies. However, overnight lows through midweek will remain near or below 20°F.

The cold snap emphasizes preparedness. Keep faucets dripping to avoid frozen pipes, check on elderly neighbors, and ensure proper heating systems are functional.
