PADUCAH, KY – A Wind Chill Advisory remains in effect across portions of Kentucky, southern Illinois, southwest Indiana, and southeast Missouri through noon Monday. Dangerous wind chill values are expected to plunge as low as -10°F overnight, posing serious frostbite and hypothermia risks.
According to the National Weather Service, the advisory covers areas including Paducah, Evansville, Cape Girardeau, and Marion. Bitterly cold air combined with north-northwest winds could result in exposed skin freezing in less than 30 minutes. Travelers along I-24, I-57, and US 60 should take precautions and avoid prolonged outdoor exposure.
Sunday night will see lows near 8°F in Paducah, with sunny skies expected for Martin Luther King Jr. Day and a high near 23°F. Wind chills on Monday morning could dip to -1°F before gradually improving. Overnight lows Monday will fall to 14°F, while temperatures midweek rise slightly, with highs reaching 34°F by Wednesday.
Residents should dress in layers, avoid unnecessary travel, and keep pets indoors. Portable heaters and generators should be used with care to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.
