Huntsville, AL – Gusty winds are sweeping across northern Alabama and southern middle Tennessee early Thursday morning under an active Wind Advisory that remains in effect until 7 a.m. CDT.

According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, sustained south winds between 10 to 15 mph are combining with gusts reaching up to 30 mph. The advisory includes Lauderdale, Colbert, Madison, Morgan, DeKalb, and other counties in Alabama, as well as Lincoln, Moore, and Franklin counties in Tennessee.

Winds of this strength may cause unsecured outdoor objects to blow around and could down tree limbs, potentially leading to isolated power outages. Drivers of high-profile vehicles, especially on elevated roadways and bridges, are urged to use caution due to reduced handling and possible sudden gusts.

Municipal crews in Huntsville and Decatur are on standby in the event of tree-related roadway hazards or minor utility issues. Local utility companies advise residents to report outages promptly and avoid downed lines.

Residents should secure outdoor items like patio furniture and trash bins to prevent damage or displacement. Conditions are expected to ease shortly after 7 a.m. as winds gradually weaken throughout the morning.

Check with local emergency management or the NWS for updates as the advisory expires.
