Santa Barbara, CA – Strong winds are sweeping through parts of Santa Barbara County, affecting both coastal and mountainous areas overnight.

According to the National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard office, a Wind Advisory remains in effect until 3 a.m. PDT Thursday for the Santa Barbara County Southwestern Coast and the Santa Ynez Mountains’ eastern and western ranges. Cities impacted include Gaviota, Montecito Hills, San Marcos Pass, and Refugio State Beach.

Northwest winds are expected to reach sustained speeds between 25 to 35 mph, with gusts peaking at 45 mph. The gusty conditions may lead to blown-down tree limbs and isolated power outages. Unsecured outdoor items could also be displaced, posing safety hazards in affected areas.

High-profile vehicles should exercise additional caution, especially when traveling along mountain passes and coastal roads like Highway 101 near Gaviota. Caltrans has not issued closures as of Wednesday night, but officials advise travelers to stay alert.

Winds of this strength are not uncommon for the region, especially during spring transitions. Residents are encouraged to secure loose items and monitor local updates.
