No Injuries Reported as Deputies Stop Gunman Shooting at Kansas Mental Health Center

Johnson County, KS – Law enforcement officials in Johnson County detained a suspect after a shooting Thursday evening outside the Johnson County Mental Health Center in Olathe. Deputies from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, along with officers from the Olathe Police Department, responded to reports of gunfire near the center on 1125 W. Spruce St.

According to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies driving through the area spotted a man allegedly firing shots into the front of the building. The offices were closed at the time, and no injuries were reported.

Deputies, aided by Olathe police, quickly apprehended the suspect, identified as 34-year-old Joseph S. Longman. Authorities reported that Longman was detained without further incident, ensuring public safety.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office confirmed it is actively investigating the incident and plans to release more details as they become available. They are urging anyone with information about the case to contact their office at 913-715-5560.
