Buffalo, NY – Sub-freezing temperatures and lake-effect snow are forecast to grip the Buffalo region this week, with the coldest day expected Wednesday. Highs will struggle to surpass the teens, with wind chills making it feel even colder. Residents are advised to prepare for icy conditions and scattered snow showers.

According to the National Weather Service, snow bands are expected to develop south and southeast of Lake Erie through Thursday, producing light, fluffy snow. While snow accumulation will remain minimal—generally less than an inch per day—the cold temperatures will create hazardous road conditions, particularly along I-190 and other major routes.

Wednesday’s high is forecast at 19°F, with northwest winds up to 15 mph. By Wednesday night, temperatures will drop to around 14°F. Drivers are urged to exercise caution, as icy patches and blowing snow could make travel treacherous.

The chill will persist through Thursday and Friday, with highs only reaching the mid-20s. Thursday will bring partly sunny skies, providing a brief respite from the snow. However, snow is expected to return Friday night into Saturday.

Looking ahead, the weekend offers little relief. Saturday’s high will be near 30°F, with additional snowfall likely, and Sunday will remain cloudy with a chance of snow showers.

Residents are encouraged to dress warmly, limit outdoor exposure, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Keep vehicles stocked with emergency supplies, as conditions could change quickly in snow bands.
