Buffalo, NY – A powerful winter storm is bringing heavy snow and dangerous travel conditions to upstate New York, with impacts expected through early Thursday morning.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Buffalo, the Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 1 a.m. Thursday for Oswego, Jefferson, and Lewis counties, including the cities of Oswego, Watertown, and Lowville. Snowfall totals are expected to range from 10 to 18 inches in the higher elevations of the Tug Hill Plateau and western Adirondack foothills, with 5 to 9 inches in lower elevations.
Wind gusts up to 45 mph will create blowing and drifting snow, leading to reduced visibility and hazardous travel conditions. Commuters should prepare for difficult road conditions during both the Wednesday morning and evening commutes. Additionally, isolated power outages are possible due to strong winds bringing down tree branches.
Residents are advised to limit travel, keep emergency kits in vehicles, and monitor local updates. The NWS encourages people to report snowfall totals via social media or their website.
