Albany, N.Y. – May 2025 drenched much of eastern New York, finishing as one of the top ten wettest Mays on record in several cities, according to the National Weather Service in Albany.
Glens Falls broke its May 31 rainfall record Saturday with 2.57 inches, pushing its monthly total to 7.28 inches—ranking as its third wettest May since 1893. Albany picked up 1.67 inches, tying the daily rainfall record set during the May 31, 1998 severe weather outbreak. The city ended the month with 7.43 inches overall, its sixth wettest May on record. In Poughkeepsie, May totals reached 8.10 inches, also placing it third all-time since records began in 1931.
With repeated rounds of heavy rain, flooding concerns lingered throughout the month. Commuters faced standing water on major roads including I-87 and Route 9, while local emergency officials urged drivers to avoid flooded intersections and low-lying areas.
Residents are encouraged to monitor sump pumps, clear storm drains, and remain alert for additional flood advisories, especially as more showers are possible in early June.
NWS Albany continues to monitor rainfall patterns closely. More precipitation is possible by midweek.
