Binghamton, NY – Scattered showers could dampen parts of the Finger Lakes and Southern Tier on Sunday, but clearing skies tonight may give New Yorkers a rare chance to spot the Aurora Borealis.

According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, isolated showers will move through the region today, especially near the Finger Lakes, while daytime highs hover in the upper 50s to near 60°F. Skies will begin to clear after sunset, creating a brief window for possible Aurora visibility—timing will be key.

Cities like Syracuse, Ithaca, and Binghamton will experience overcast skies through early evening, but cloud cover is forecast to thin by 9 p.m. to midnight, especially farther south in Towanda, Scranton, and Hazleton. Temperatures will dip sharply overnight, with lows in the upper 30s across rural areas and low-to-mid 40s in urban centers.

Residents hoping to catch the northern lights should monitor sky conditions closely and head to darker, higher-elevation areas. Be sure to dress warmly and have a flashlight handy, as visibility may peak after midnight.

Cool, dry conditions will continue into Monday, with additional updates expected if visibility improves or Aurora activity increases.
