New York, New York – A Winter Storm Watch remains in effect from late Saturday night through Monday afternoon for parts of southern Connecticut, northeast New Jersey, and southeast New York, with heavy snow expected to create dangerous travel conditions.
According to the National Weather Service in New York, total snowfall accumulations of 8 to 14 inches are possible, with locally higher amounts across interior locations. Along coastal areas, snow may mix with or briefly change to sleet Sunday evening, which could limit accumulations to the lower end of the forecast range.
The heaviest snowfall is expected from Sunday morning into early Sunday evening. During this period, roads—especially bridges and overpasses—are likely to become slick and hazardous. Forecasters warn that visibilities may drop below one-quarter mile at times due to falling and blowing snow.
The watch includes New York City and Long Island, the Lower Hudson Valley, northeast New Jersey, and much of southern Connecticut. While snowfall totals may vary by location, confidence is increasing that this system will have widespread impacts across the region.
Officials advise residents to consider delaying travel from Sunday into Monday if possible. Motorists who must travel are urged to use extreme caution and ensure vehicles are winterized and in good working order. Carrying a winter storm kit, including blankets, a flashlight, and extra clothing, is strongly recommended.
Commuters, weekend travelers, and residents across the region should closely monitor forecast updates as timing and snowfall amounts become clearer ahead of the storm.
