New York, New York – Motorists north and west of New York City could encounter slick bridges and untreated roads before sunrise Tuesday as spotty freezing drizzle develops ahead of a warm front.

According to the National Weather Service in New York, light snow and pockets of freezing drizzle may form late Monday night and persist into Tuesday morning across the Lower Hudson Valley, southern Connecticut and portions of northeast New Jersey. Areas including Westchester, Rockland, Orange and Putnam counties, along with Fairfield and New Haven counties in Connecticut and parts of Bergen and Passaic counties in New Jersey, face the highest risk.

Even light glaze can create hazardous travel, especially on elevated roadways such as I-287, I-95 and the Hutchinson River Parkway. Overpasses, bridges and secondary roads are most susceptible to icing during the early morning commute.

Drivers should reduce speed, allow extra stopping distance and check state DOT updates before departing. Pedestrians should watch for icy sidewalks and stairs.

Temperatures are expected to gradually rise later Tuesday morning, limiting widespread icing, but isolated slick spots could linger through mid-morning in shaded areas.
