Binghamton, NY – A lake effect snow warning is in effect for Northern Oneida County until 7 p.m. Monday, with up to 8 inches of total snowfall expected, according to the National Weather Service.
The advisory, issued Sunday night, warns of hazardous road conditions that could impact both the Monday morning and evening commutes. Additional snow accumulations of 2 to 5 inches are expected overnight and throughout the day Monday.
Drivers in the affected areas, including Boonville, should plan for slippery roads and reduced visibility. The New York Department of Transportation advises motorists to check 511 for real-time road conditions before traveling.
Residents are urged to take precautions, including keeping extra food, water, and a flashlight in vehicles in case of emergencies. Those traveling through the region should allow extra time and drive with caution.
Lake effect snow events in this region are common during winter months, but the timing of this storm could create significant disruptions. The warning remains in effect until 7 p.m. Monday, with conditions expected to improve afterward.
