Albany, N.Y. – Heavy afternoon rain and possible thunderstorms could disrupt travel across the Hudson Valley and Catskills on Monday, as a cool, unsettled weather pattern grips eastern New York and parts of western New England.
According to the National Weather Service in Albany, locally heavy rain is expected to develop this afternoon, particularly across the mid-Hudson Valley, southeast Catskills, and northwest Connecticut. Rumbles of thunder may accompany the rainfall, with temperatures hovering in the upper 50s to lower 60s.
Cities including Poughkeepsie, Hunter, and Torrington are in line for the heaviest downpours, especially during peak commute hours. Rainfall could reduce visibility and lead to ponding on roadways, especially in low-lying or poorly drained areas. Motorists are urged to slow down and allow extra travel time.
Further north, lighter rain is expected from Albany to Glens Falls and into Vermont. Temperatures in these areas will remain cool, with highs topping out near 60°F. In contrast, Ithaca and Binghamton may see slightly warmer conditions but will still contend with periods of rain.
This marks the first widespread soaking rain event for parts of the region in over two weeks. Residents should charge devices, check drainage around homes, and monitor for any flood advisories.
More showers are possible into Tuesday morning, with updates expected later today.
