Albany, NY – Residents in eastern New York should prepare for a stormy end to the week as heavy rain and strong winds move through the region. Rainfall totals between 0.5 and 2 inches, combined with melting snow, could cause isolated ice jam flooding and minor river flooding, particularly south of I-90.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Albany, rain will continue overnight into Friday, with gusty winds potentially reaching 46 mph. If confidence in wind speeds increases, a wind advisory may be issued. Motorists should be cautious on roadways, as standing water and slick conditions could make travel hazardous, especially near low-lying areas.
Friday will bring partly sunny skies with a high near 41°F, but strong winds of 15-20 mph will persist. By Friday night, temperatures will drop to 27°F with mostly cloudy skies and a west wind of 7-9 mph.
Looking ahead, the weekend will see a mix of sun and clouds. Saturday’s high will reach 36°F, while Sunday will be slightly warmer at 38°F. Overnight lows will remain in the mid-20s.
Drivers and residents should stay updated on flood alerts and avoid any roads covered in water. Those in flood-prone areas should take precautions, as additional rainfall next week could worsen conditions.
