New York faces a soaking start with steady rain already falling and heavier bands building by midday, setting up a flood risk that could quickly overwhelm low-lying roads and small creeks. Rain pools on pavement and visibility drops fast during heavier bursts, especially along I-81 and Route 17.

According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, a Flood Watch is in effect from 8 a.m. through Wednesday evening as multiple rounds of rain move across central New York. Rainfall totals between a half inch and up to three-quarters of an inch are expected early, with higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Binghamton and surrounding communities including Vestal, Johnson City, and Endicott will see rain intensify through the afternoon. Thunderstorms could develop before evening, bringing localized downpours that quickly flood poor drainage areas. Plan extra travel time and avoid water-covered roads.

Rain continues into Wednesday with an 80% chance of steady showers and a high near 60°F. Creeks and streams may rise after repeated rainfall, especially in Broome and Tioga counties. Thursday night stays damp with lingering rain and lows in the low 40s.

By Thursday, showers become more scattered with a 50% chance of rain and highs near 59°F. Friday trends slightly warmer near 71°F, though another round of showers may arrive later in the day.

Looking ahead, the first full week of April leans milder, but the active storm track keeps the ground saturated and flood concerns elevated. Stay alert for warnings if heavier rain develops.
