Albany, NY – A powerful ice storm continues to impact eastern New York and southern Vermont, with freezing rain creating hazardous travel and the threat of extended power outages across the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, an Ice Storm Warning remains in effect until 11 a.m. EDT Sunday for Hamilton, Northern Warren, and Northern Washington counties in New York, as well as Bennington and Western Windham counties in Vermont. Ice accumulations are expected to reach up to two-tenths of an inch in some areas.

The storm has already caused slick roadways, downed tree limbs, and ice-laden power lines. Higher elevation areas above 1,500 feet in southern Vermont are seeing the worst impacts, with significant icing reported early Sunday.

Residents are urged to avoid travel unless absolutely necessary. Officials recommend keeping flashlights, food, and water on hand in case of power loss. Downed power lines should be reported immediately and avoided at all times.

Temperatures are expected to hover near freezing throughout the morning, with conditions improving slowly after the warning expires. This late-season storm poses heightened risks for rural communities where ice-related outages can take longer to resolve.
