Albany, NY – The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a tornado watch for southeast New York, including the Hudson Valley, effective until 2 p.m. EDT Friday. Residents are urged to be prepared as severe weather is expected to develop throughout the morning and early afternoon.

According to the NWS Storm Prediction Center, a warm front advancing northward will likely trigger isolated to widely scattered thunderstorms in the region. Some of these storms could intensify into supercells, which have the potential to produce tornadoes and isolated damaging wind gusts reaching 60 mph.
The tornado watch area is broad, covering approximately 75 miles east and west of a line extending from Monticello, New York, to Patuxent River, Maryland. New Yorkers in the affected area should remain vigilant and ready to take immediate action if severe weather warnings are issued. The NWS reminds residents that a tornado watch signifies that conditions are favorable for tornadoes and severe thunderstorms, advising them to stay updated with local weather information throughout the day.
