La Porte, IN – A high-speed police pursuit on the Indiana Toll Road ended in a rollover crash and arrest Tuesday afternoon. A deputy attempted to stop a black Jeep SUV near the 52-mile marker when the driver accelerated and fled.
According to the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office, the chase continued westbound. Near the 34-mile marker, a passenger discarded a bag before officers deployed tire deflation devices at mile 31. The SUV turned around near the Portage Toll Barrier but later exited at the 39-mile marker, crashing along US 421. The vehicle rolled several times, and the driver attempted to flee on foot.
Police arrested 42-year-old Kleve Panayoty of Brooklyn, New York. He was charged with resisting law enforcement, leaving the scene of an accident, and never receiving a license. Two injured passengers were taken to a hospital.
Panayoty remains in La Porte County Jail with a $755 bond. Multiple law enforcement agencies assisted in the pursuit.
