Buffalo, N.Y. – Rain and thunder will stir up western New York beginning Sunday afternoon, kicking off a stretch of unsettled summer weather for Buffalo and surrounding towns.
According to the National Weather Service, scattered showers will develop after 2 p.m. Sunday, followed by a chance of thunderstorms after 5 p.m. in Erie County. Rain chances climb to 60% by Monday afternoon, with possible thunder and gusty winds arriving by Monday night. Commuters on I-190 and Route 33 should prepare for slick pavement and limited visibility, especially during evening travel hours.
While temperatures remain seasonable — highs in the mid-70s through Tuesday — wet weather may disrupt outdoor plans. Monday’s storms could bring up to a quarter inch of rain, with higher totals possible in stronger cells. Gusts may reach 23 mph Tuesday before conditions begin to clear.
By midweek, summer returns. Sunshine dominates Wednesday and Thursday, with highs pushing into the mid-70s and no rain expected. It’s a short-lived break before another round of showers possibly returns late week.
Stay weather-aware through Tuesday, especially during evening commutes. Have your umbrella, charge devices in case of outages, and avoid flooded roads.
