Buffalo, New York – Rising flood risks loom across Western New York on Tuesday as a slow-moving cold front threatens to drench the region with heavy rainfall and potential flash flooding.
According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, a Flood Watch is in effect from 2 p.m. Tuesday through late Tuesday night for Monroe, Wayne, Livingston, Ontario, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, Allegany, Wyoming, and Southern Erie counties. Drivers on Route 390 and I-86 should be especially cautious, as repeated downpours could trigger rapid runoff and flood-prone roads.
Low-lying areas and communities along creeks and streams—including Jamestown, Rochester, Canandaigua, and Springville—face the highest flood risk. Forecasters warn that poor drainage in urban areas may lead to quick water buildup, making travel hazardous.
If you live in an at-risk area, move vehicles to higher ground and avoid walking or driving through flooded roads. Local emergency managers urge residents to monitor alerts and be ready to act quickly if a Flash Flood Warning is issued.
