BINGHAMTON, NY – A strong storm system will bring heavy rain, potential flooding, and severe thunderstorms to Binghamton and central New York late Wednesday into Thursday. With warmer temperatures melting existing snow, the risk of ice jam flooding increases, especially in low-lying areas.

According to the National Weather Service, rain will begin Wednesday afternoon, becoming heavy overnight. Thunderstorms are expected, with gusty winds reaching 30 mph. Precipitation totals between a half-inch and three-quarters of an inch could cause standing water and minor flooding. River levels may rise, and ice jams could lead to localized flooding.

By Thursday, rain will taper off into scattered showers. However, flooding concerns remain due to saturated ground and melting snow. High temperatures will reach the mid-40s, with winds shifting to the west at 16 mph.

Five-Day Forecast:

Friday: Partly sunny, high near 41°F.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, high near 38°F.

Monday: Milder, high near 42°F with sunshine.
