New York, New York — Strong and potentially damaging winds are expected to impact parts of the United States on Friday, including the Northeast, as more than 75 million people remain under High Wind Warnings or Wind Advisories.
According to the NOAA Weather Prediction Center, widespread wind impacts are the primary weather concern Friday, with gusts strong enough to cause power outages, downed trees, and hazardous travel conditions in multiple regions. Areas affected stretch from the West and central Rockies into the Plains, Midwest, and parts of the East Coast.
In the New York City region, gusty winds may complicate travel, particularly on bridges, elevated roadways, and for high-profile vehicles. Officials warn that unsecured outdoor objects could be displaced by strong gusts, creating additional hazards.
Nationally, forecasters say the strongest winds are expected in areas already under High Wind Warnings, where gusts may exceed 50 mph. Wind Advisories are also in effect across several states, signaling conditions capable of causing minor damage and travel disruptions.
The Weather Prediction Center emphasized that the wind threat is not confined to one region, making Friday a high-impact weather day across much of the country. Airlines, trucking routes, and utility providers may all see disruptions as the system moves east.
Residents are urged to stay alert for local advisories, secure loose outdoor items, and prepare for possible power interruptions. Drivers are advised to use caution, particularly during peak wind periods.
Commuters, delivery drivers, and outdoor workers in major metro areas such as New York may notice the greatest impacts Friday during daylight hours as winds intensify.
Forecasters continue to monitor the system and urge the public to follow updates from local National Weather Service offices.
