Manhattan, NY – Drivers and pedestrians in Manhattan and across the lower Hudson shoreline should brace for coastal flooding tonight as rising tides threaten low-lying areas by 8 p.m. Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service, a Coastal Flood Statement remains in effect until 12 a.m. Friday, June 27, for Hudson, Eastern Essex, Eastern Union (NJ) and Manhattan (NY). Up to six inches of inundation is possible in vulnerable neighborhoods near the waterfront and shoreline. Brief but disruptive flooding may impact roads like Route 440 in Hudson County and areas near the East River in Lower Manhattan.
Residents are urged not to drive through flooded roadways, especially after dark when water depth may be harder to judge. Minor flooding in streets, sidewalks, and basements is possible in some waterfront neighborhoods.
Looking ahead to Friday, June 27, the threat of flooding will ease, but showers and thunderstorms are likely after 2 p.m., accompanied by a high near 82°F. A similar pattern continues into Saturday, with scattered storms and highs in the low 80s. Storms may return Saturday night, with a 50% chance of rain and thunder.
Sunday and Monday bring partly sunny skies and more warmth, with temperatures nearing 85°F by Monday. However, showers return Monday evening, continuing into early next week.
Stay updated with alerts from the NWS New York Office and avoid shoreline travel tonight where possible.
