DOWNERS GROVE, Ill. – A New York man’s audacious attempt to allegedly rob a FedEx driver in broad daylight has led to his arrest, with local authorities denying his pre-trial release.

According to police reports, Keruin Guzman Araujo, 28, from the Bronx, stands accused of trying to rob a female FedEx driver delivering an Apple iPad Pro. The alleged attack took place on Lincoln Street in Downers Grove around 9:16 a.m. on Monday.
Guzman Araujo is said to have claimed the package was his, leading to a tussle that resulted in the driver falling to the ground. Escaping with the iPad Pro, he made his getaway in a rented U-Haul pickup truck. However, his freedom was short-lived, with local police locating him at a nearby Airbnb by midday.
DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin emphasized the severity of the crime, stating that the assault on a worker during the day is deeply concerning. He thanked the Downers Grove and Elk Grove Police Departments for their swift response and capture of the alleged perpetrator.
Downers Grove Chief of Police Michael DeVries also acknowledged the fast action of his team and the support from the State’s Attorney. The defendant is set to appear in court on October 10, 2023, with Judge Ann Celine O’Hallaren Walsh presiding.
