Albany, NY – Rising creeks and streams could begin impacting roads and low-lying areas across the Adirondacks and western Mohawk Valley by late Tuesday morning as steady rain moves in.
According to the National Weather Service in Albany, a Flood Watch remains in effect from 8 a.m. Tuesday through Wednesday evening. Rainfall totals between 1 and 2 inches, combined with melting snow, are expected to generate significant runoff across Hamilton and Herkimer counties.
Communities including Old Forge, Long Lake, Herkimer, and Little Falls could see waterways rise quickly, especially during heavier rounds of rain Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday. Smaller streams and creeks are most vulnerable to overflowing, particularly in areas with lingering snowpack.
Low-lying roads and flood-prone locations may become impassable if water levels rise rapidly. Officials urge residents to monitor conditions closely and avoid driving through flooded roadways.
The flood risk will continue through Wednesday evening as multiple rounds of rain move through the region. Additional warnings may be issued if water levels approach or exceed flood stage.
