New York, New York – Heavy snow could spread across the Tri-State area starting Sunday morning, with up to 10 inches possible before the Monday morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in New York, a Winter Storm Watch is in effect from Sunday morning through Monday afternoon for southern Connecticut, northeast New Jersey, and southeast New York, including New York City, Long Island, Westchester, Rockland, Bergen, Passaic, and Hudson counties. Snow totals between 6 and 10 inches are possible, with wind gusts up to 40 mph producing blowing snow and sharply reduced visibility.

Travel could become very difficult.

Major corridors including Interstate 95, the Long Island Expressway, Garden State Parkway, and Interstate 87 may become snow-covered late Sunday into early Monday. Heavy wet snow combined with gusty winds could down tree limbs and disrupt Metro-North, Long Island Rail Road, and NJ Transit service.

Residents should prepare vehicles and consider adjusting travel plans before Sunday morning. Utility providers across the region are monitoring the potential for scattered power outages due to heavy, wind-driven snow.

Snow may continue into Monday afternoon before tapering west to east, with lingering slick road conditions into the evening commute. The Winter Storm Watch remains in effect from Sunday morning through Monday afternoon as snowfall totals and wind impacts are refined.
