Somerset, Pennsylvania – Heavy snow could begin late Saturday night in the Laurel Highlands, with up to 8 inches possible before the Monday morning commute and impacts lasting into Monday night.

According to the National Weather Service in State College, a Winter Storm Watch is in effect from late Saturday night through late Monday night for Cambria and Somerset counties. Snow totals between 4 and 8 inches are possible, with wind gusts up to 35 mph creating blowing snow and reduced visibility.

Travel could become very difficult.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike, along with Route 219 and US-22 near Johnstown and Somerset, may become snow-covered by early Monday. Gusty winds could cause drifting on elevated and exposed roadways, especially during the Monday morning and evening commutes.

Residents should prepare vehicles and adjust travel plans before Saturday night. PennDOT crews are expected to monitor road conditions and stage equipment along major corridors through the Laurel Highlands.

Snow may continue in waves through Monday night before tapering early Tuesday. The Winter Storm Watch remains in effect from late Saturday night through late Monday night as forecasters refine snowfall totals and wind impacts.
