New York, New York – An arctic cold front is moving through the New York region Friday, sending temperatures sharply lower tonight and creating dangerous wind chill conditions across the area.

According to a National Weather Service New York update, overnight temperatures are expected to fall into the single digits, while gusty winds will make it feel significantly colder. Forecasters say wind chill values between -5 and -15 degrees are likely from late Friday night through early Saturday morning.

Cold Weather Advisories are in effect for portions of the region as the coldest air settles in behind the front. The harshest conditions are expected overnight, with limited improvement by daybreak Saturday.

The NWS warns that prolonged exposure to the cold could lead to frostbite and hypothermia, especially for those outdoors without proper protection. Pets, vulnerable populations, and those without reliable heat may face elevated risk during the cold snap.

Residents are urged to limit time outdoors overnight, dress in layers, and ensure exposed skin is covered. Those traveling early Saturday morning should be prepared for bitter cold, particularly at bus stops, train platforms, and parking areas.

The extreme cold is expected to ease gradually later Saturday as winds diminish and temperatures slowly recover. Additional advisories may be issued if conditions worsen.
