New York, NY – Extreme heat is set to grip the Tri-State region starting late Wednesday morning, with heat index values soaring past 100 degrees and lingering into Thursday evening across New York City, New Jersey, and southern Connecticut.

According to the National Weather Service, a Heat Advisory is in effect from 11 a.m. Wednesday through 10 p.m. Thursday, with “feels-like” temperatures expected to reach 102°–103° across Manhattan, the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, and nearby suburbs. Officials warn the afternoon hours will be the most dangerous for heat-related illness.

In Connecticut, residents of Fairfield, New Haven, Middlesex, and New London Counties should take precautions as similar oppressive conditions settle in. In New Jersey, the advisory includes Passaic, Bergen, Hudson, Essex, and Union Counties, where urban infrastructure can trap heat and limit overnight cooling.

Cooling centers will open across New York City; residents can call 311 to find locations. Those without air conditioning are strongly urged to seek out cooler environments and avoid strenuous activity. Employers and outdoor workers should follow OSHA guidance on rest breaks and hydration.

Heat stroke is a medical emergency—call 911 if symptoms like confusion or fainting occur.

Advisories remain in effect through Thursday evening. Additional warnings may follow if conditions worsen or extend.
