New York, NY – Authorities arrested Marciano Sanchez, 40, in New York City, ending a 14-year manhunt. Sanchez, originally from Queens, was wanted in connection with a 2010 attempted murder in Brick Township, New Jersey.
According to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer, the New Jersey State Police Fugitive Unit and U.S. Marshals Task Force captured Sanchez on Wednesday. He is being held at Rikers Correctional Facility, awaiting extradition to New Jersey.
Sanchez had been on the run since being charged with allegedly shooting a man in the face on November 29, 2010. The victim, who survived, was treated at Jersey Shore University Medical Center.
A warrant for Sanchez’s arrest was issued in December 2010, and he was placed on New Jersey’s Most Wanted list. Authorities credited local, state, and federal cooperation in his capture.
Prosecutor Billhimer expressed gratitude for the multi-agency effort, stating Sanchez will now “face justice” for his alleged crimes. Sanchez will be extradited to Ocean County to face multiple charges, including attempted murder.
