Glens Falls, NY – A wintry mix of freezing rain continues to affect eastern New York and southern Vermont, prompting a Winter Weather Advisory that remains in effect until 11 a.m. Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, affected areas include northern Herkimer, Hamilton, Warren, and northern Washington counties in New York, along with Bennington and Windham counties in Vermont. Ice accumulations are expected to range from one-tenth to three-tenths of an inch, with localized totals up to half an inch in the eastern Adirondacks and southern Green Mountains.

The hazardous conditions are expected to make sidewalks, bridges, and roads extremely slippery. Residents are urged to drive cautiously, reduce speed, and be alert for patches of black ice, especially on untreated surfaces and elevated roadways.

In addition to dangerous travel, the weight of ice on tree limbs and power lines may cause scattered outages across the region. Utility companies recommend preparing for possible interruptions by charging devices and securing backup lighting.

This storm follows a relatively mild March for the Northeast but brings a sharp return to winter conditions. Authorities advise avoiding unnecessary travel overnight and into early Sunday, particularly in higher elevations and rural areas where road treatment may be delayed.
