Valentine, NE – Snowfall is expected to impact travel and safety across parts of eastern Nebraska today, with accumulations reaching up to 5 inches in some areas.
According to the National Weather Service in North Platte, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. CDT Saturday for Brown, Eastern Cherry, Keya Paha, and Thomas counties. Cities under the advisory include Valentine, Ainsworth, Springview, Halsey, and Thedford.
Forecasters say 2 to 3 inches of snow are likely, with isolated areas possibly seeing up to 5 inches. Wind gusts over 25 mph are also expected, reducing visibility and contributing to slippery conditions on roads. The combination of snowfall and wind may cause hazardous travel, particularly on rural highways and less frequently maintained roads.
Drivers are advised to slow down, allow extra time for travel, and use caution throughout the day. Those needing road condition updates should call Nebraska 511 or visit www.511.nebraska.gov for the latest information.
While the snowfall is not expected to last beyond tonight, lingering slick conditions may persist into early Sunday morning, especially in shaded or untreated areas.
