Albuquerque, New Mexico – Snow and icy road conditions are expected across much of New Mexico through early Sunday, with multiple Winter Weather Advisories covering northern, western, and central parts of the state as colder air settles in.

According to the National Weather Service in Albuquerque, advisories remain in effect through Sunday morning for the Northwest Highlands, Chuska Mountains, West Central Mountains, Southwest Mountains, and the Far Northeast Highlands, while the Middle Rio Grande Valley, including the Albuquerque metro, enters an advisory window beginning Saturday afternoon. Additional snowfall totals range from 1 to 4 inches, with the highest amounts expected in mountain terrain and foothill areas.

In northwest New Mexico, communities near Cuba and along U.S. Highway 550 could see snow-packed roads as rain changes to snow by Saturday afternoon. Portions of I-40 may become slick, particularly overnight. Across central New Mexico, rain showers are expected to transition to snow later Saturday, with 1 to 3 inches possible in Albuquerque and higher totals along the Sandia and Manzano foothills. I-25 and I-40 travelers should plan for reduced visibility and icy patches.

Far northeast New Mexico, including Raton Pass, Union County, and Harding County, faces difficult travel conditions into early Sunday. Bitter cold will follow the snowfall, with wind chills dropping near 10 below zero Sunday and Monday mornings.

Drivers are urged to slow down, increase following distance, and check road conditions before traveling. Advisories remain in effect through Sunday morning, and additional updates may be issued as snow and cold persist.
