Albuquerque, NM – A powerful winter storm is sweeping across northern and northeastern New Mexico, bringing heavy snowfall and hazardous travel conditions. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning in effect until 11 a.m. MST Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service in Albuquerque, snow accumulations between 4 and 10 inches are expected in lower elevations, while areas above 9,500 feet in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains could see between 12 and 20 inches of snow.

The storm is impacting multiple areas, including the Tusas Mountains, Jemez Mountains, Northern and Southern Sangre de Cristo Mountains, Johnson and Bartlett Mesas, and Raton Pass, as well as Union and Harding counties.

Travel is expected to be difficult to impossible, particularly on mountain passes and highways. Officials urge drivers to check road conditions before traveling. The storm could also disrupt the Friday evening commute with snow-covered roads and reduced visibility.

Residents are advised to keep emergency supplies, including a flashlight, food, and water, in their vehicles if travel is necessary. For the latest road updates, visit nmroads.com or call 511.

Snowfall is expected to taper off by late Saturday morning, but lingering impacts may persist. Stay informed and take necessary precautions.
