Albuquerque, New Mexico – Afternoon thunderstorms are set to ramp up again across New Mexico through Tuesday, bringing the risk of localized heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and brief flash flooding to cities from Santa Fe to Raton.

According to the National Weather Service Albuquerque, monsoonal moisture will drive scattered storms Sunday through Tuesday, peaking during afternoon and evening hours. Gusty winds and lightning are expected with stronger cells, with rainfall rates topping 1 inch per hour possible in areas like Taos, Angel Fire, and Los Alamos. Rising water in normally dry arroyos and increased flash flood threats are a concern, especially near recent burn scars.

Santa Fe, Albuquerque, and Farmington may see storms disrupt travel on I-25, I-40, and mountain routes, while school activities and outdoor events could face delays. Residents should secure lightweight objects and avoid low-lying areas during heavy rain. Power outages remain possible due to lightning and wind.

By midweek, thunderstorm chances drop sharply as a hot, dry pattern settles in. Daytime highs are expected to climb well above normal statewide through July 31, with lower storm coverage still capable of sparking isolated flash floods in the northern mountains.

Thunderstorm warnings remain in effect until late Tuesday. More advisories could follow if moisture surges return.
