Albuquerque, NM – A dramatic shift in weather will sweep across New Mexico beginning Friday, bringing widespread precipitation, gusty winds, and a steep plunge in temperatures through Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service in Albuquerque, a potent cold front will surge southward across the state Friday night into Saturday morning. Rainfall is expected to transition rapidly to snow, especially in northern and eastern regions and through the Central Mountain Chain.

Snow totals could reach 6 to 12 inches in the Northern Mountains. Eastern New Mexico and high terrain areas in the west may see between 1 to 4 inches. The combination of accumulating snow and strong winds is expected to reduce visibility and create difficult travel conditions.

Temperatures will drop significantly, with highs Saturday ranging from 15 to 35 degrees below average. Wind chills will make it feel even colder, with values in the 20s across eastern New Mexico and in the 30s elsewhere.

Drivers and outdoor enthusiasts should prepare for rapidly changing conditions and monitor updated forecasts, advisories, and warnings. This late-season winter storm could cause hazardous travel and impact weekend plans throughout the state.
