Albuquerque, NM – A High Wind Watch has been issued for multiple regions in New Mexico, with strong winds expected to impact travel and power infrastructure from late Saturday through Monday evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Albuquerque, the first High Wind Watch begins late Saturday night and continues through Sunday afternoon. Winds from the west are expected to reach 30 to 40 mph, with gusts up to 60 mph in areas including the Central Highlands, Eastern Lincoln County, the South Central Mountains, Guadalupe County, and Southwest Chaves County.

A second High Wind Watch will take effect Monday morning and last through Monday evening, with southwest to west winds increasing to 35 to 40 mph and gusts potentially reaching 65 mph. This alert extends to the South Central Highlands and Northeast Highlands.

Officials warn that the high winds may down trees and power lines, leading to possible power outages. Visibility may also be reduced to two miles or less in areas affected by blowing dust. Drivers of high-profile vehicles should use extreme caution, as travel conditions could become hazardous.

Residents are encouraged to secure loose outdoor objects and stay updated with the latest weather advisories. The National Weather Service advises monitoring local forecasts for potential upgrades to warnings.
