Richmond, VA – A Red Flag Warning is in effect for central and eastern Virginia, as well as parts of Maryland’s Eastern Shore, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday due to dangerous fire weather conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, a combination of gusty winds, low humidity, and dry fuels is creating a heightened wildfire risk. Winds will range from 15 to 20 mph, with gusts reaching up to 35 mph, shifting northwest later in the evening. Humidity levels are expected to drop as low as 22% in Virginia and 28% in Maryland, further increasing fire potential.

Affected areas in Virginia include Richmond, Prince Edward, Goochland, and multiple counties across the central and eastern regions. In Maryland, Dorchester, Wicomico, Somerset, and Inland Worcester counties are under the warning.

Residents are strongly urged to avoid outdoor burning and follow state regulations, which prohibit open burning before 4 p.m. through April 30. The combination of warm temperatures, dry conditions, and high winds can lead to rapid fire spread.

Authorities recommend securing loose outdoor objects, avoiding activities that produce sparks, and staying alert for emergency updates. Any signs of fire should be reported immediately to local emergency services.
